Research and planning: What is a music video?

A piece of music is accompanied with a music video. Although some bands may decide to make one for purely artistic reasons, music videos are typically used to market and promote the sale of music recordings. A variety of filmmaking techniques are used to create music videos, including animation, live animation, and non-narrative methods like abstract film. Some music videos may not have a predetermined theme and may just be recordings of live performances of songs.

The purpose of a music video includes:
  1. To sell the song and invoke a reaction so that the audience remembers the song.
  2. To give the audience a better understanding of the song.
  3. To entertain and showoff the artists talents.
  4. Marketing for purpose of exposure and expansion of the artist's profile.
  5. To sell CD's, DVD's and downloads by creating memorable visuals.
  6. The overall purpose is to generate revenue for the record company.
